on the menu // hot chips!

we had beef burger for dinner tonight and Jim was really keen to make our own hot chips.

after some research and youtubing, we decided to use a combination of techniques from various sources. some tips we picked up  during our research:

_ pick the right potatoes. we used desiree potatoes (the ones with the pink skin)
_ cut the potatoes in similar sizes
_ soak them in cold water for a period of time to remove the starch
_ make sure you pat dry the potatoes before you put them into the boiling hot oil
_ cook the potatoes twice. once on low heat (150C) for 5 minutes and the second time on really high heat (180C) until golden brown

we followed pretty much all of the above tips and they were the best chips we’ve tasted. they were crunchy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. they were yum!

Jim said the only thing missing was an icy cold glass of coke! for me, i wish we had some chicken salt :P

as much as i hate deep frying food at home, we’re definitely going to make them again whenever we make burger for dinner (or lunch).
